Description

Model 404R is a rigid turtle trap for catching turtles up to 100 lbs. It features an access door at the rear of the trap for easy baiting. This trap uses a traditional trip pan to close the trap door. Bait this trap with chopped raw fish in a sack or bait box hanging near the back of the trap. Turtles will enter the trap to feed and step on the trip plate activating the door to shut. Placement of the trap should be partially submerged with the trap door facing deeper water and bait touching the water to ensure the scent from the raw fish enters the water attracting the turtle.This trap measures 42L x 24W x 11H and is constructed of 1x2 - 12ga wire mesh.

the hook that sets the trap is delicate, so be careful not to break it.

Easy to use and highly effective. Having had no luck with baited hooks or rifles, I bought this trap to get the snapping turtles out of my residential pond. Baited it at dusk, had caught a turtle by the morning. Same story 5 more times, catching a turtle overnight every single time. (except once, when my bait was the problem) I used old fish from our freezer, new discount fish from the grocery store, and even a hot dog when I was out of fish. I just placed bait in a ziplock, perforated the bait and bag to let the scent flow through, and zip tied to the floor of the cage. Just make sure to leave the top corner above water so they survive. Much more humane than a rifle. I marked their shell and released them. So far, none have returned. If they do, I may not guarantee them a second release.
